Cycling along the Mulde Cycle PathAt the moment, all tours are only available in German language.
![]() “The Magical Mulde” would be a fitting title for this cycle tour along Germany’s fastest-flowing river, which is characterised by a wide variety of forts and castles just waiting for you to discover them. You will be spoilt for choice when putting your tour together, as you can choose to start your journey from one of two different parts of the river. Whether you opt for the Freiberger or Zwickauer Mulde, your route will take you towards their confluence close to the small town of Colditz and its famous castle. You will then continue along the course of the “unified” Mulde to Dessau, where the river flows into the Elbe. En route you will take in historical gems such as the castles of Rochlitz and Rochsburg, Mildenstein Fort in Leisnig or the monasteries at Wechselburg and Altzella. The car town of Zwickau, Freiberg (including its cathedral and Freudenstein Castle) and Grimma with the town houses and Renaissance buildings of its picturesque old town also await you. A detour to Leipzig is certain to be one of the highlights of your pedal-powered journey. A regional train service will take you back to your main route, which subsequently passes through the heath landscapes of Dahlen and Düben. Once you have sighted the beaches of the Mulde reservoir you will know that Dessau is just a short distance away. This route along the Mulde is not only characterised by unspoilt pasture landscapes and pristine river banks, but also by numerous hilly sections – especially in the Sächsisches Burgenland region. It takes you along quiet minor roads as well as surfaced or unsurfaced cycle paths, field tracks and forest paths.
