Itinerary: Cycling holiday from Prague to Magdeburg

From Prague to Magdeburg

Total length of the route: approx. 511 km

Day 1: Arrival in Prague
Prague, "The Golden City", offers ample opportunities for spending your time. The highlights of your stay will include a visit to one of the famous museums, Prague Castle and the magnificent bridges.

Day 2: Prague - Melnik (approx. 55 km)
Along the river Vlatva you will cycle to Melnik – the centre of the Bohemian wine route. From Melnik castle you can enjoy a wonderful view of the spot where the Elbe and the Vlatva rivers converge.

Day 3: Melnik - Litomerice (approx. 45 km)
From Melnik to Litomerice you will pass Terezin – the former Jewish Ghetto. Litomerice with its superb houses is the political and cultural centre of the region.

Day 4:
Litomerice - Decin (approx. 50 km)
Today’s leg will take you to Decin via Usti nad Labem. On the way you will pass Strekov Castle.

Day 5:
Decin - Bad Schandau (approx.21 km)
Between Decin and Bad Schandau you will see the impressive sandstone massif in the Bohemian and Saxon Switzerland region.

Day 6:
Bad Schandau - Dresden (approx. 45 km)
Along the towering Elbe Sandstone massif and delightful riverbank meadows you will cycle to Dresden, the “Florence of the Elbe”.

Day 7:
Dresden - Meißen (approx. 30 km)
From far away you can already see the landmark of the city of Meissen: the impressive castle hill with the cathedral and the Albrechtsburg castle. A visit to the world-famous Meissen porcelain factory is also a must. In the evening you should enjoy a good wine as you are in the heart of one of the smallest yet most distinguished winegrowing regions of Germany.

Day 8:
Meißen - Riesa/Strehla (approx. 28/36 km)
Today’s tour will take you along the picturesque wine villages located along the Elbe river, especially Diesbar-Seußlitz.
On the way you will be enjoying the enchanting rural atmosphere of the Elbe town of Strehla. Next stop will be Riesa, the city of sports. The town is also famous for its pasta production. In the transparent noodle centre you can gain an insight into the modern food production at the second biggest German pasta manufacturer.

Day 9: Riesa/Strehla - Torgau (approx. 48/ 40 km)
Your journey continues to Torgau, a Renaissance town featuring Schloss Hartenfels and the palatial church which is known as the first Protestant church of Germany and which was dedicated by Martin Luther.

Day 10: Torgau - Pretzsch (approx. 34 km)
Enjoy the peaceful landscape and a short distance today.

Day 11: Pretzsch - Lutherstadt Wittenberg (approx. 38 km)
Today you will be staying in Wittenberg, a town which became famous through Martin Luther.

12. Tag: Lutherstadt Wittenberg - Dessau (approx. 37 km)
The next leg of the journey will take you through the beautiful meadows of the Elbe and past the world-famous Woerlitzer Park and Gardens. The 100-hectare large park offers numerous attractions including islands, canals, temples and statues. Dessau is famous for its Bauhaus building. In 1919 Walter Gropius founded an art school which united the avantgarde of the 20th century in architecture, art and design.

Day 13:
Dessau - Barby (approx. 38 km)
Quite surrounding and almost untouched nature - characterizes your short ride to Barby.

Day 14: Barby - Magdeburg (approx. 40 km)
Between Magdeburg and Barby you will cycle across another biosphere reserve along the river Elbe giving home to lots of vulnerable species of birds. Sometimes you can even see a beaver

Day 15: Individual departure or transfer back to Dresden/Prague
