The Harz Mountains: In the Middle of Germany

Forests, half-timbered houses and Romanesque style

For many, the Harz Mountains are the »most German« of all uplands. They are home to unspoilt, wild and romantic nature alongside picturesque half-timbered settlements which take visitors back to eras long since past. Romanesque churches, monasteries and proud fortresses bear witness to medieval times, when miners had already dug successfully for precious ores. Shrouded in myth, the Brocken is the peak where witches celebrate their wild sabbath during Walpurgis Night.

Why you should travel to the Harz:

- Famous names such as Luther, Heine and Goethe have been enchanted by the Harz
- Good accessibility from Germany and around Europe
- A variety of landscapes: deep valleys, jagged cliffs, rolling hills and clear lakes
- Most northerly uplands in Germany
