On 07 March 2010 Dresden's new attraction opened the doors: The Turkish Chamber (Türckische Cammer): The Electoral Saxon Collection of Oriental Art

Yesterday approximately 2500 visitors have seen the new opened Turkish Chamber at Dresden Royal Palcae for the first time. "This exhibition adorns whole Germany", said our foreign minister Guido Westerwelle who came together with his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu for the opening.

The fascination of the Orient moved with the opening of a further part of the reconstructed Royal Palace in the former residence. Main attraction in the “Türckische Cammer”, which will be situated on the second floor, will, next to weapons, helmets, flags and dresses, also be Ottoman tents and equestrian equipment on specially carved life-sized horses. Over a period of many centuries, the dukes of Saxony collected the most distinguished and most renowned collection of Ottoman artworks from the 16th to the 19th century, which has not been on view for more than 70 years.

Opening hours: daily 10 to 18 hrs, closed on Tuesdays
