14/07/2011 | Reopening of the Museum of Military History in Dresden

On the 14th of October 2011 time has finally come were the biggest history museum of Germany opens its doors for visitors - the Museum of Military History.

The Museum shows on 8.800 qm exhibition space more than 7.000 exhibits - from the smallest pin over field post cards to a space capsule.

The museum sees itself first and foremost not as a museum of technology but as a museum of history. Its purpose is to provide information about varied references of military history, to encourage people to ask questions, and to offer a variety of answers. It wants to be a museum without emotionalism which endeavours to combine historical reflection and critical debate.

But the Museum of Military History offers its visitor not only information about history, especially knowledgeable architecture lovers already await the re-opening of the museum. None other than Daniel Libeskind was the designer of the new building in the north of Dresden. Daniel Libeskind is an American architect, artist and set designer of Polish-Jewish decent. In Germany he also designed the Jewish Museum of Berlin the Felix Nussbaum Museum in Osnabrück.
