05/03/2010 | New Bach Museum in Leipzig from 20 March 2010

The 20th of March 2010 is a red-letter day, as it marks the reopening to the public of Leipzig’s Bach Museum. A two-year construction project has not only restored it to its former glory, but also enlarged its museum space and improved its service facilities. The introduction of multimedia exhibition technologies means that the life and work of Johann Sebastian Bach and his family will now be portrayed in an interactive way. One of the highlights of the new museum is the vault housing original Bach manuscripts and other treasures. The organ console from Leipzig’s Johanniskirche (tested by Bach himself in 1743), a chest containing relicts from Bach’s tomb and a newly discovered cash box belonging to the Bach family are amongst the fascinating objects set to go on display. The entire exhibition is bilingual (German/English), and includes the opportunity to spend time in a listening room and pleasant gardens. A museum shop is also available.
