From Passau to Vienna (AT): Cycle tours along the Danube Cycle Path
From the Three Rivers City to the City of Music
The Danube Cycle Path between Passau and Vienna is commonly regarded as the most famous, popular and most travelled cycle route in Europe. At almost no other section of the Danube will you meet such a variety of landscapes, cultures and concentration of historic references.
Serene valleys are alternated with fertile lowlands and steep wine terraces“Schlögener Donauschlinge” (Danube Loop), Melk Abbey and the Wachau are only a few of the cultural highlights which we will explore on our journey.

Day 1: Individual arrival in Passau
After your arrival in Passau you have time to stroll around, to discover the historical center of the three-river-city.
Overnight stay in Passau -
Day 2: Passau – Schlögener Schlinge/surroundings (approx. 40 km)
Your first cycle tour leads you into the Upper Danube Valley to the Schlögener Schlinge. Stop for a while in the Austrian town Engelhartszell to taste the well-known liqueurs before you continue along the Danube cycle path.

Day 3: Schlögener Schlinge/surroundings – Linz (approx. 55 km)
Today you encounter the first scenic highlight - the great “Schlögener Donauschlinge” (Danube loop of Schlögen). You cycle through the fruitful region of the „Eferdinger Becken”, passing by the villages of Aschach, Ottensheim and the baroque Wilhering Monastery before you reach Linz, the capital of Upper Austria.

Day 4: Linz – Grein/Bad Kreuzen (approx. 60 km)
Todays cycle tour will take you to Mauthausen or Enns, the oldest city of Austria. Later you continue onwards into the little mariner town of Grein, which marks the beginning of the “Strudengau”. Here you have time to visit Grein Castle, the city theatre and the maritime museum.

Day 5: Grein/Bad Kreuzen – Melk (Cat. A, approx. 50 km)/Wachau (Cat. B, approx. 70 km)
The first stage of todays cycle tour will be the old Roman town of Ybbs. Here the gentle landscape of the Nibelungengau begins. Enjoy the wide river valley. Past Marbach, the famous pilgrimage of Maria Taferl, you will see soon far from a distance the marvellous baroque Benedictine monastery of Melk.

Day 6: Melk/Wachau – region Krems (Cat. A)/region Traismauer (Cat. B) (approx. 40 km)
The town of Melk marks the beginning of the most famous section of the Danube - the Wachau. This day abounds in natural beauties and cultural sights, while the Danube cycle path leads you through traditional viticultural villages of the Wachau all the way to Krems. How could you better enjoy the beautiful landscape then by a boat trip from Spitz to Krems (the boat trip is included in price category A). In Krems - a more than 1000 year old town with medieval streets and romantic courtyards with arcades - the Wachau ends. From there you cross the Danube once again and cycle - past Göttweig Monastery - into the Tullner Field with its city of flowers, Tulln. Or you continue five more kilometres and reach Stockerau with the church of the Holy Stephan and its 88 metres high church tower.
Overnight stay in the region Krems (Category A) or Traismauer (Category B) -
Day 7: Krems/Traismauer – Vienna (approx. 45 – 70 km)
Today you will cover the last stage of your cycle tour with target in Vienna. On your way you encounter numerous allotment gardens and weekend settlements, as well as the famous Augustinian convent of Klosterneuburg, the “Kahlenberg” (Vienna’s lookout-mountain) and Nussdorf.

Day 8: Individual departure from Vienna
After an unforgettable biking holidays along the Danube cycle path a transfer will bring you back from Vienna to Passau. We recommend you to extend your cycle holidays by booking some extra nights in Vienna, Passau, Linz or Wachau for cultural experiences.

The train station in Passau is very easy to reach with ICE and IC connections and regional trains. From the station in Passau you then have the option of using public transport to get to your hotel. Depending on the location of the hotel, a taxi is also recommended.
