Cycling Holidays from Dresden to Berlin
Journey

What to expect
Along the Elbe and on the flat and well-asphalted Elbe Cycle Path, the tour takes you initially from Dresden to the world famous town of Porcelain – Meissen, the residence city Torgau up until Lutherstadt Wittenberg. There, you can follow the tracks of Reformation. In order to reach Berlin, you then leave the Elbe Cycle Path and take the Europe Biking Path R1 (also called Euro-Route R1) northwards.
It leads you through countryside and forests and you eventually pass the natural reserve Hoher Fläming. With a bit of luck, you can catch sight of the last remaining Great Bustards in Germany. Very soon, you reach the lowlands of Bad Belzig and it begins to become flatter again. You continue passing the city of Beelitz, which is known for its asparagus all over Germany. Maybe you have the chance to try some of the delicious and freshly-stung vegetable?!

Itinerary
Detailed tour description
Day 1: Individual arrival in Dresden
Seize the first day of your travel from Dresden to Berlin and discover the capitol of Saxony during an individual city stroll. The choice of sights is huge: Zwinger Palace, Semper Opera House or the famous Dresden Church of Our Lady await your visit!
Day 2: Dresden – Strehla (approx. 66 km)
The first stage of your bicycle tour to Berlin leads you passed the vineyards of Dresden Elbe Valley. En route, the contemplative Radebeul village centre Altkötzschenbroda is perfect for a break. Soon, the porcelain town Meissen welcomes you with its landmark – the ensemble of cathedral and castle Albrechtsburg. You pass the sport and noodle town Riesa before you will reach your final destination for the day – Strehla.
Day 3: Strehla – Torgau (approx. 40 km)
Today is more of a rural day and you cycle through many little villages. In between, a stop in Belgern is worth it. Belgern is the only Saxon town with a Roland statue. “Roland” is a still image of a knight only equipped with a sword and ensembles the city rights and thus was often used to be set up on market squares or in front of town halls. Now only 20km are left until the residence city Torgau. You should seize the afternoon for a visit of castle Hartenfels and the castle church.
Day 4: Torgau – Lutherstadt Wittenberg (approx. 68 km)
A day filling stage is on the programme today. In Pretzsch, you can change over the river to the other side of the banks via ferry (price not included in cost of travel). On the right side of the river, you continue your bicycle tour via Elster to Lutherstadt Wittenberg, which was the starting point of Martin Luther’s Reformation movement.
This tour can be divided when staying overnight in Pretzsch (results in 37 km/35 km).
Day 5: Lutherstadt Wittenberg – Bad Belzig (approx. 42 km)
Today, you leave the Elbe and continue your bicycle tour to Berlin at the European Bike Path R1 inland through the natural reserve Hoher Fläming and the health resort Bad Belzig. Even from far distance, you can already see the castle complex of Eisenhardt castle. After a city stroll through historic old town, you can relax in the spa "Steintherme Bad Belzig".
Day 6: Bad Belzig – Potsdam (approx. 60 km)
The European Bike Path R1, which has accompanied you on your bicycle tour since Lutherstadt Wittenberg, presents at its best showing you the most wonderful scenery today. Potsdam with Sanssouci Castle and many more pretty castles and parks is today’s final destination. Prior, you ride through the growing region of the famous Beelitzer asparagus and along the banks of lake Schwielow and Templiner See.
Day 7: Potsdam – Berlin-Mitte (approx. 35 km)
You leave Potsdam by crossing the Havel using the Glienicker bridge and keep on riding in the direction of Germany’s capitol Berlin. Through the Berlin forest and along the Greater Wannsee you approach the TV Tower Berlin. Today’s final destination is simultaneously the final destination of your bicycle tour from Dresden to Berlin – The city centre of Germany’s capitol with its numerous sights.
