Cycling holidays: Elbe Cycle Path from Dresden to Prague (CZ)
Through untouched landscapes to the city of 100 towers
This bicycle tour from Dresden to Prague connects two significant cultural-historical cities. Starting from the bizarre rocky landscapes of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains the tour leads you through the rural landscapes of the Czech Republic passing the lovely Elbe-towns like Litoměřice or Mělník to the "Golden city" of Prague.
In the last couple of years, on the Czech side the Elbe cycle path has continuously been extended and developed. This allows bikers to mostly cycle on the asphalted path, rarely have to make way through any roadways.

Day 1: Individual arrival in Dresden
You arrive in the Florence of the Elbe, Dresden, which is beautifully located along the Elbe valley. Whether the famous Zwinger, the Semper Opera or the Court Church – a tour of the former royal residence by bicycle will take you past many sites.
Overnight stay in Dresden -
Day 2: Dresden – Pirna/Bad Schandau (approx. 22/45 km) You will start your bicycle tour along the Elbe River Cycle Path with a first highlight of the day: take your time to stroll through the gardens of Pillnitz Palace, the former summer residence of the royal Wettin family of Saxony. The park with its numerous trees, some of which are more than 200 years old, is regarded as a significant collection of rare and precious plants. From here the journey takes you to the so called gate of the Saxon Switzerland: Pirna.
Overnight stay in Pirna or Bad Schandau -
Day 3: Pirna/Bad Schandau – Decin (approx. 44/21 km)
Today the cycle path will take you along the Elbe past the Koenigstein fortress to Bad Schandau in the heart of Saxon Switzerland. After a few kilometers you leave Germany and continue in the Czech Republic. You will still see some bizarre rocky formations of the Saxon Switzerland before coming to Děčín. We recommend you to visit the local baroque castle, where also Frédéric Chopin went to search for inspiration.
Overnight stay in Decin -
Day 4: Decin – Litomerice and surrounding area (approx. 50 km)
From Děčín outwards, you will cycle through Ústí nad Labem and pass the ruin of castle Střekov which is situated atop the river. From here it is only a few kilometres to Litoměřice with its famous chalice house. Take a walk through the old town of Litoměřice to give your day the ideal ending.
Overnight stay in Litomerice and surrounding area -
Day 5: Litomerice and surrounding area – Melnik (approx. 45 km)
Today’s cycle tour you should start with a visit of the former fortress and town Terezín only a few kilometres from Litoměřice. The Elbe cycle path leads you through the town of Roudnice before your tour continues to the centre of the bohemian wine growing area Mělník. From the castle in Mělník you can enjoy a marvellous view over the confluence of the two rivers Vltava and Elbe (Labe in Czech).
Overnight stay in Melnik -
Day 6: Melnik – Prague (approx. 55 km)
The rest of the tour today the Vltava River will lead you all the way to the Capital of the Czech Republic. The “Golden city” has plenty to offer: Situated on both sides of the River Vltava, the highlights of Prague include the sixteen arches of the 14th century Charles Bridge, the Old Town Square and the irregular cobbled square with its famous Astronomical Clock.
