Day 1: Individual arrival in Metz
The French city Metz, capital of the Lorraine region, is definitely worth seeing! In addition to unique buildings, the Old town features various attractions for example the restored old fortifications. We also recommend taking a restful break in one of the cities numerous and large parks.
Overnight stay in Metz -
Day 2: Metz – Perl (approx. 34 - 63 km)
Before you pass the border to Germany in the late afternoon, you can catch a glimpse at the French way of life. Don’t miss out on a taste of French cuisine and a big cafe au lait. These delectations won´t be weighing on your conscience for long as the road between Metz and Thionville will be a lot busier. If you rather want to take it easy we suggest a train ride (direct connection, complimentary bicycles). From Thionville, the Moselle cycle path becomes more reliable and well-signposted. Enjoy your ride in the proximity of the shoreline while passing the Franco-German border. After arriving in Perl, you can extend today´s journey with a trip to Schengen by ferry. From here you can take a ride to the Roman Villa Borg (5 km east of Perl) and visit the area of scientific excavation sites, which cover an area of more than 7.5 hectares.
Overnight stay in Perl -
Day 3: Perl – Trier (approx. 52 km)
You will keep following the Moselle valley with a beautiful view of vast vineyards to the right and left side of the river. The Mediterranean charm, the picturesque corners and old lanes of Remich will amaze you, being witnesses of a great historic past. Soon you will reach your final destination of today’s bike tour: Trier. Discover the Porta Nigra, the amphitheater, the Imperial Baths or the magnificent cathedral during a leisurely walking tour.
Overnight stay in Trier -
Day 4: Trier – Piesport (approx. 48 km)
Today´s route along the Moselle cycle path will put the focus on both Roman past and contemporary viniculture. The city of Mehring will give you the opportunity to visit the open-air museum of ‘Villa Rustica’, a manor of the Roman Empire with reconstructed walls and foundations. Later in the day, you will pass Trittenheim, where an educational trail informs about the man-year of the wine-grower, the local variety of grapes and the process of wine-growing. Just before reaching today’s destination, you will pass Neumagen-Dhron, Germany’s oldest wine-growing village. Treat yourself to a special break and savour some of that wine!
Overnight stay in Piesport -
Day 5: Piesport – Traben-Trarbach (approx. 40 km)
The two famous Moselle towns Bernkastel-Kues and Traben-Trarbach as well as the wine-growing resort "Kröver Nacktarsch" are highlights of the today’s bike tour! Be amazed by the picturesque marketplace of Bernkastel-Kues, framed by colorful and various half-timbered houses. In Traben-Trarbach an abundance of buildings with architectural treasures of the Jugendstil and “Belle Epoque” styles will make your evening stroll a very romantic experience.
Overnight stay in Traben-Trabach -
Day 6: Traben-Trarbach – Cochem (approx. 55 km)
First intermediate target of the day is Enkirch, a quaint village famous for its half-timbered buildings nestling between steep vineyards and the scenic river. Next you will reach Zell where you can indulge in stunning views of pure nature at its most narrow bend of the Mosel at the Moselle promenade. Take a short break in the small town of Beilstein, proud of its surname “Rothenburg an der Mosel”, before you continue your bike tour to Cochem.
Overnight stay in Cochem -
Day 7: Cochem – Koblenz (approx. 49 km)
Passing the neat wine-growing villages like Koben Gondorf ,Winningen or the Deutsche Eck, you will have the chance to visit the Burg Eltz. Nestled in the hills above the Moselle River, this medieval castle grants the experience of the Middle Ages and nature in its purest form! Sooner than expected you will reach the destination of your cycle holiday: the 2000-year-old town of Koblenz. Surrounded by four low mountain ranges its abundance of cultural monuments and historic buildings, its cozy lanes and narrow alleys and the relaxed atmosphere of its squares make Koblenz a very welcoming town.
