250 Years of Caspar David Friedrich 2024

Tracing Caspar David Friedrich's Footsteps in Saxony

2024 is all about Caspar David Friedrich! He is considered THE representative of Romantic art in Germany. Some of his paintings have become pictorial icons, most notably the "Wanderer over the Sea of Fog" (Hamburger Kunsthalle), "The Monk by the Sea" (Alte Nationalgalerie, Staatliche Museen Berlin) and "Two Men Contemplating the Moon" (Albertinum, Staatliche Kunstsammlung Dresden).

Born in Greifswald in 1774, Caspar David Friedrich moved to Dresden in 1798. He visited the surrounding area such as the Giant Mountains or the Saxon Siwtzerland, but also Meissen or Nossen where he recorded his impressions in drawings and paintings. In 1840 he died in Dresden where he is buried on the Trinitatis Cemetery. Never heard of it? Get up and explore his footsteps with us!
