Thanks to its architectural diversity and numerous world-class museums, Dresden can justifiably be called an art city. Not without reason the capital of Saxony is also known as Florence of the North.

Thinking of Dresden, the unique baroque old town, the Zwinger with its exquisite porcelain collection and the Old Masters picture gallery with the celebrated Sistine Madonna are of particular interest. The Historic Green Vault, as well as the New Masters gallery in the Albertinum line up.

In addition to these world-famous collections and art works Dresden offers a vivid scene of modern and contemporary art. Let yourself be carried away to the fascinating city of Dresden and find ideas for your art tour there.

Basic package for your art tour to Dredsen
4 days / 3 nights

Day 1: Individual arrival to DresdenResidenzschloss
On the first day of your group trip to Dresden, your guests will get to know the Saxon capital of culture. During a thematic city tour, your group will learn important details, interesting anecdotes and interesting facts about the history, art and architecture of Dresden and Saxony.

Day 2: Royal Palace and Albertinum or Old Masters picture gallery
In the morning we recommend a visit to Dresden Royal Palace. It hosts several exhibitions, including the Green Vaults and the Armory. During an overview tour, you will learn everything worth knowing. In the afternoon you can plan a visit to the Albertinum. Here the collection of the New Masters is housed with works ranging from Romanticism by Caspar David Friedrich to contemporary art by Gerhard Richter. Alternatively, you may prefer to visit the Old Masters picture gallery, which, after extensive reconstruction, will finally shine in new splendor by the end of 2019.

Day 3: Excursion to Meissen or visit to Dresden New Town
Only about 40 km from Dresden the enchanting city of Meissen is located. It gained notoriety mainly because of the porcelain. You are welcome to include a visit to the Porcelain Manufactory on your art tour to Dresden. A visit to the workshop and the extensive exhibition is definitely worthwhile.

Blick von der Kreuzkirche zur Neustadt Kulturpalast

If you would like to experience more art in Dresden, we recommend a visit to Dresden New Town (Neustadt). Although Dresden boasts mainly with its Baroque Old Town, the art scene continues in the hip New Town. Many galleries, cafés and small craft shops await you here. Visit the Kunsthof Passage, a very special place of art. A visit to the Kügelgenhaus is also a good idea, a wonderful collection of works of Dresden Romanticism.

Day 4: Individual return journey or extension
Today you start the journey home or extend your stay. Other ideas would be a visit to the arts and crafts museum in Pillnitz (with a visit to the park) or a trip to Leipzig, which also has very outstanding artworks to offer with the GRASSI Museum.

A trip to the north of Germany offers architecture lovers very special experiences. Delicate vaults, imposing church buildings and city gates steeped in history - all built from the striking red brick.

The European Route of Brick Gothic runs from Denmark across Germany's coast to Poland and tells of the trade and wealth of the Hanseatic cities. The architecture of the brick Gothic is to be found in Germany to this extent only in the north. Churches, city walls, palaces and castles, town houses and towers can be found, built in the small-scale stones. Discover the architectural features paired with the charming cities of the German Baltic coast.

Plan your architectural trip to the north and discover Wismar, Stralsund, Greifswald, Lübeck or the impressive Minster of Bad Doberan. Many of the places are even on the list of UNESCO World Heritage and have also gained international significance.

We have put together a proposal for a trip on the topic "Brick Gothic". The trip can be customized according to your wishes, in terms of programme and duration.

Day 1: Individual arrival to Lübeck Holstentor in Lübeck
After your arrival to the beautiful city of Lübeck, we recommend a tour of the picturesque old town. The city center is surrounded by the waters of the Trave and a moat. During the tour you will get to know the most important sights of the Hanseatic city, such as the seven church towers (Lübeck is referred to as the "city of seven towers"), the impressive brick town houses and, of course, the famous Holstentor. A popular souvenir is the renowned Niederegger Marzipan.

Day 2: Excursion to Wismar
From Lübeck the city of Wismar is worth a visit. Located in the Wismar Bay, protected by the island of Poel, the Hanseatic city flourished in the Middle Ages and left charming town houses, which form a colorful ambience especially on the market square. The Hanseatic city is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage. The churches of the city center, such as St. Mary's Church and St. Nicholas Church, are testimonies of brick Gothic.

Day 3: Drive to Schwerin
The drive from Lübeck to Schwerin does not take long, so in the afternoon you can explore the beautiful city on Lake Schwerin as if you have all the time in the world. In addition to a tour, you should definitely plan to visit the castle. Give yourself a little more time here. The seat of the Landtag of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern for many centuries once was the residence of the Mecklenburg dukes. The castle is located on a small island and includes a castle garden. Since 1993, the Schwerin Castle Festival takes place in the summer here.

Day 4: Drive to Stralsund via Bad Doberan
The Minster of Bad Doberan is considered the "pearl of brick Gothic". Built in the 13th century as a Cistercian monastery, the high-Gothic church still impresses its visitors today. It has a high international rank, as it holds the richest equipment of all Cistercian churches from all over Europe. In addition, it served as the burial place of the Mecklenburg dukes and nobles for centuries. And that the soil conditions were considered a special challenge for the builders, makes the building even more amazing for us today. Continue to Stralsund, where you spend the night.

Day 5: Guided walking tour Stralsund and excursion to Greifswald St. Nikolas' Church in Stralsund
In addition to Wismar, the old town of Stralsund is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. During a tour you can experience the masterpieces of brick Gothic: St. Nikolai, St. Jakobi and St. Mary are just three of the many highlights. Tip: From the observation tower of the Marienkirche you have a wonderful view over the city and the Strelasund. Other attractions include the Gorch Fock and the impressive building of the OZEANEUM.
In the afternoon we recommend a trip to Greifswald. The birthplace of the famous painter Caspar David Friedrich has a lovingly designed old town, the Pomeranian State Museum and the Museum Harbor. When it comes to brick Gothic, the visit of the monastery ruin Eldena (a frequently used motif by Caspar David Friedrich) should not be missed. In the small suburb Wieck a stroll on the promenade is highly recommended.

Day 6: Individual return journey or extension
Today you start the journey home or extend your stay. Depending on where you are coming from, you can supplement this tour with an extension in Berlin or Hamburg. Also other excursions, such as to Rügen Island, Usedom Island or the city of Rostock are possible. We are happy to help you to find ideas.

Experience art from ancient to modern times and be enchanted by the contemporary art scene in these cities. The Rhineland stands above all for innovative paths in art and famous artists such as Gerhard Richter and Joseph Beuys have left their marks here.

But friends of the Old Masters and palace architecture also get their money's worth.

Anyone travelling to the Rhineland should also experience the culinary highlights. Beer and hearty dishes characterize the menus of the restaurants. So do not miss to drink an original Kölsch and look forward to Rhenish Sauerbraten.

In 2019, Germany will be celebrating the centenary of the founding of the Bauhaus. The 20th century’s most significant and influential design academy, the “Staatliches Bauhaus”, was founded in Weimar in 1919 before later moving to Dessau. Closed in Berlin under pressure from the Nazis in 1933, the school of design only existed for a total of 14 years.

Form follows function: Bauhaus creations are amongst the classics of international design. Visit impressive exhibitions, e.g. the Dessau Masters’ House, explore the cradle of the modern avant-garde school in the new bauhaus museum in Weimar and follow in the footsteps of Otto Dix in Gera.

Celebrate 100 years of Bauhaus together with your group during this cultural tour!
