City tour to Upper Lusatia

In the heart of Upper Lusatia: A cultural journey of discovery to Bautzen and Görlitz

This group tour brings you closer to the culture of the Sorbs. Bautzen, the historical capital of Upper Lusatia, is today the political and cultural centre of this German minority. Bautzen is the second largest city in the region after Görlitz and is known far beyond the region's borders. From the Peace Bridge, visitors can enjoy a unique view of the city's most striking ensemble, consisting of the Old Waterworks and St. Michael's Church. Görlitz, Germany's easternmost city, has gained fame not least through numerous film productions. The historic old town with the Parish Church of St. Peter and Paulinvites you to linger. The Holy Sepulchre, the Silesian Museum, and the Landeskrone are worth seeing.
Typical of Upper Lusatia is the "rolling R" in its usage, which characterizes the Upper Lusatian dialect and is spoken primarily in the higher-lying communities. Also typical of the region are Umgebindehäuser, a combination of half-timbered and solid construction with shingle roofs. Crucifixes as well as well-kept churches and chapels are expressions of a (mostly Catholic) popular piety that is still alive today and contributes to the preservation of the Sorbian character.

You will frequently encounter well-known stories and legends such as "Krabat" and "Pumphut" on this city tour. Many customs, such as Easter riding and the traditional painting of Easter eggs, also offer excellent opportunities to plan a special cultural tour. The Sorbian traditional costumes, worn especially by Sorbian women during the holidays, are also very impressive.
This group tour is customised by us for you. It can be modified, shortened or extended according to your wishes. We look forward to receiving your enquiry and will be happy to provide you with a customised offer for your group tour.
