What to expect

Dresden, the 800-year-old capital of Saxony, is one amongst of Europe’s leading cultural capitals. Its treasures include an abundance of architectural monuments, top-class museums and world-renowned cultural institutions, and promise those who discover them a real treat and wealth of surprises.

A city tour to Dresden offers you the chance to explore its historic centre, featuring the Zwinger Palace, Theatre Square, Royal Palace and the Church of Our Lady. Take the opportunity to enjoy an outstanding concert or a boat trip with the world’s oldest fleet of paddle steamers – and you too will fall in love with the “Florence on the Elbe” on this city tour to Dresden.

For all of you who already know Dresden and wish for one or another secret tip – we have a lot of ideas in mind to extend the classical Dresden programme. What do you think about a visit to the Dresden city museum or to the Panometer Dresden? Dresden's surroundings are worth a visit too: Go on a ride with the narrow-gauge steam train "Lößnitzdackel" to Moritzburg. Furthermore, you should not miss a day trip to the "unexplored" parts of Saxon Switzerland...

Detailed information for journey "City tour Dresden"

Basic package for your group tour "city tour to Dresden":
4 days/3 nights

Day 1: Individual arrival
On the day of arrival, your group will go on a guided tour to get to know the city centre of Dresden. The guide will provide your group with impressive details, interesting stories and a lot of worth knowing information about the so called „Florence on the River Elbe“. There are many ways to explore Dresden: What about a sportive tour by bike, a wandering tour on Erich Kästner’s tracks or a discovery tour through various eras of architecture?

Day 2: Guided tour of Dresden
On the second day of your city tour to Dresden your group will get an impression of Dresden's museums and collections: Enjoy a stroll through the museums of the Dresden State Art Collections and discover the cherry stone, Raffael's Sistine Madonna, finest porcelain, the astronomical clock or the many precious ceremonial weapons. Alternatively your group visits the city museum of Dresden to learn more about the 800-year history of Dresden. At Panometer Dresden history becomes more vividly. From Januar to June you can immerse into “Dresden 1945”. From July to December there will be “Baroque Dresden”. Light and sound thereby demonstrate day times, reflecting the era and the setting in the scene.

Day 3: Dresden and its surroundings
The third day could be a day off for your group. We recommend you a trip to the surroundings of Dresden. We would be pleased to organise a trip...

  • to the city of porcelain Meißen
  • with the “Lößnitzdackel” steam train to Moritzburg. There you could walk throughout the beautiful park and visit the “Fasanenschlösschen” (Little Pheasant Castle).
  • to Bautzen and Upper Lusatia
  • to the Saxon Switzerland incl. a trip to the beautiful viewing platform "Bastei"
  • Alternatively your group could go on a trip to the “unexplored” parts of Saxon Switzerland: Do not miss a visit to Weesenstein Castle and Großsedlitz Baroque Garden.

Day 4: Individual departure
After your three days in Dresden we wish you a pleasant way home. We hope you have had a great time and an unforgettable group tour in Dresden!

This itinerary is only a suggestion for your next group tour to Dresden which can be adjusted according to your desires. After always dealing professionally with this destination I wanted to get to know Meissen and Moritzburg from a different point of view. Therefore, I joined one of our groups in autumn 2010 on their excursion to this region. The porcelain manufactory was my highlight on this tour. The museum and the demonstration workshop were very interesting and we learned a lot about the ‘white gold’. Accompanied by one of our experienced local guides, we continued with a walking tour of Meissen and further on, a visit of Moritzburg Hunting Lodge. All in all, the excursion was fantastic!

The itinerary worked well and the hotel in both Dresden and Berlin were a good standard, good sized rooms and service and excellent locations. The restaurants were first class and so was the service and the coach drivers were polite and drove well. The guides were excellent with very good English, very knowledgeable and very informative. A very enjoyable holiday and all the members rated it "one of the best". Very many thanks again for making this tour such a success! (...) Everyone really enjoyed their time in Germany and we would like to thank you and all your colleagues very much for the wonderful and efficient organisation of all arrangements. We really look forward to working with you and Augustus Tours again in the future and I will be in contact with any group requests that we get for Germany.

Dresden welcomed us with open arms and warm hearts, and I was overwhelmed by the City's sense of identity and determination to grow into the future. With Dresden now firmly fixed in my own heart, I shall return again and again not only with my clients but also personally, as I feel I have been privileged to make new friends who will remain close to me into the brightness of the future.

From my first moment of welcome from Augustus Tours at the airport, until seeing me safely at departures by transfer at Dresden International for my return home, I was looked after and provided with everything i needed to ensure a perfect visit/city tour of Dresden.
Information, guidance, a perfect hotel to stay in, every detail was taken care of with the ultimate Professionalism. Anke and her team ensured I had everything planned for a smooth, and relaxed exploration of the wonders of Dresden.
The City is truly a wonder, both from a historical viewpoint and for its vision for the future. The people of Saxony were a pleasure to meet, friendly, vibrant and so very welcoming. For anyone who has not yet visited sure to put this to the top of your wishlist!

The holiday was wonderful. Everybody enjoyed it thoroughly. With 2 flights, 3 hotels, 5 coaches, 5 guides, etc. everything was so well organised. It all went to plan. Hotels were all very good and very conveniently situated, guides had excellent English and were very knowledgeable, coaches all turned up on time and were very comfortable. The efficiency made my job all the easier. Thank you all so much for an excellent time. I shall be recommending you to others.
Many thanks indeed. Well done!
