Cycle tour Prague along the Elbe Cycle Path- Dresden

From the "Golden City" to the picturesque Florence on the Elbe

This bicycle tour from Prague to Dresden connects two significant cultural and historical cities. Capture the flair of the golden city before you set out on your way through the rural landscapes of the Czech Republic to Germany.

Over the last few years, the Czech side of the Elbe Cycle Path has continuously been extended and developed. Therefore, you will cycle mostly on the paved cycle path, rarely using country roads with light or moderate traffic. Look forward to the pretty Elbe-towns such as Mělník or Litoměřice before you reach the bizarre and rocky landscape of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains and, finally, Dresden - the 'Florence of the Elbe'.
This group tour is customised by us for you. It can be modified, shortened or extended according to your wishes. We look forward to receiving your enquiry and will be happy to provide you with a customised offer for your group tour.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Individual arrival in Prague
Prague is easily accessible for your group by plane or train. If you prefer to travel by car, we recommend driving to Dresden, where you can park your cars at our partner hotel for the duration of the tour. From there, we offer a shuttle service that will take your group directly to Prague (to the Holešovice district, conveniently located near the cycle path). This way, you can start your cycling holiday from Prague to Dresden together, relaxed and carefree.
    Overnight stay in Prague
  • Day 2: Individual Sightseeing in Prague
Situated on both sides of the River Vltava, the Golden City has plenty to offer. Take a stroll through the Old Town Square and admire the Astronomical Clock. Then, walk over the famous Charles Bridge, with its sixteen arches, to Hradčany. The historic centre is easily explored on foot, and the friendly atmosphere in the shops, cafés, and wine bars makes Prague a delightful place for your group to visit.
    Overnight stay in Prague
  • Day 3: Prague – Melnik (approx. 58 km)
Today your group begins the cycling tour from Prague to Dresden. After breakfast, you will leave the Czech capital together and follow the Vltava River towards Mělník, the heart of the Bohemian wine-growing region. The castle in Mělník offers wonderful views of the confluence of the Vltava (Moldau) and Elbe (Czech: Labe) rivers and provides an ideal setting for a shared break along the route.
    Overnight stay in Melnik
  • Day 4: Melnik – Leitmeritz (approx. 48 km)
From today onwards, the Elbe accompanies your group all the way to Dresden. The route leads via Roudnice to the former fortified town of Terezín before continuing on to Litoměřice, home to the famous chalice house. After today’s cycling, enjoy a relaxed stroll together through the charming old town, shaped by Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance architecture.
    Overnight stay in Leitmeritz
  • Day 5: Leitmeritz – Decin (approx. 50 km)
During today’s cycle tour, your group will ride through Ústí nad Labem, passing the ruins of castle Střekov before continuing along the Elbe towards Děčín. Once in Děčín, a visit to the baroque castle perched high above the river is well worthwhile. From here, the group can enjoy impressive views across the Elbe Valley and discover the place where Frédéric Chopin once sought inspiration.
    Overnight stay in Decin
  • Day 6: Decin – Bad Schandau/Pirna (approx. 21/45 km)
Leaving Děčín behind, your group cycles along the left bank of the river and soon crosses the border into Germany. On both sides of the Elbe, the striking rock formations of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains begin to rise, creating an impressive backdrop. Enjoy the fairytale-like scenery together as you continue your ride through this unique landscape to Bad Schandau. From there, the route continues past the Königstein Fortress and the famous Bastei, eventually leading you into the medieval town of Pirna, the gateway to Saxon Switzerland and the destination of today’s stage.
    Overnight stay in Bad Schandau/Pirna
  • Day 7: Bad Schandau/Pirna – Dresden (approx. 47/22 km)
The final stage of your cycling holiday along the Elbe Cycle Path takes your group to Pillnitz. The Palace and Park invite you to explore their tranquil gardens and elegant surroundings. From there, the cycle path leads you directly into Dresden. Along the way, there is plenty of time to enjoy the scenic views of the picturesque Elbe Valley together. Upon arrival in Dresden, the historic city centre provides the perfect setting for a relaxed evening stroll and a pleasant farewell dinner in one of the many local restaurants.
    Overnight stay in Dresden
  • Day 8: Individual departure from Dresden
