Art

Dresden Residence Castle

"Of new and old masters"

Visit baroque Dresden with your group and follow in the footsteps of Augustus the Strong through the Royal Palace with the Green Vault and the Türckische Cammer or visit the Old Masters Picture Gallery to admire Raphael's Sistine Madonna. For fans of modern art, we recommend a stroll through Dresden's Albertinum. Art from the Romantic period to the present day is exhibited here, including paintings from Caspar David Friedrich to Gerhard Richter.

A trip to Meissen is no less rewarding. The town on the Elbe is famous for the production of Meissen porcelain, among other things. It is also considered the cradle of Saxony and is home to the oldest palace in Germany. A visit to the MEISSEN® porcelain manufactory can be wonderfully combined with a tour of the porcelain collection of the Dresden State Art Collections. It is considered to be the highest quality and most extensive special ceramic collection in the world.

We are also happy to organize visits and guided tours to the most renowned museums in Berlin, Munich and many other German cities. Here you will find our travel suggestions on the subject of art and architecture.

History

"Saxon industrial history"

No other region in Germany has provided as much impetus for science and technology as Saxony. Many inventions and world firsts come from Saxony, such as the mechanical loom, the miniature camera, toothpaste, mouthwash, the coffee filter and the tea bag. In 1708, Ehrenfried Walther von Tschirnhaus and Johann Friedrich Böttger invented "white gold", Europe's first hard porcelain.

"Experience contemporary history: German unity"

Several decades have passed since German reunification. On your journey through Bautzen, Leipzig and Berlin, discover what happened in the former GDR and find out what has happened in recent years. Discover that Bautzen has a different face to the dreaded prison and get to know the country and its people. Travel to the "cradle of the peaceful revolution" in Leipzig, where the fall of the Berlin Wall has its roots. As a highlight of your trip, we recommend a visit to the once divided city of Berlin, a symbol of German reunification.

Saxony is known for its inventive spirit in the fields of industry and technology. 1839 was the year in which Germany's first long-distance railway started operating here. Even today, nowhere else in Germany are there as many steam trains on the move as in Saxony. Take a journey back in time with AugustusTours to the past of the railway.
