Reopening of the Old Masters Picture Gallery in Dresden
Anke Berndt
A special highlight for art enthusiasts
Alongside Raphael's cult painting "Sistine Madonna", the new permanent exhibition presents many world-famous masterpieces such as Rembrandt's "Ganymede", Vermeer's " The Procuress" or Giorgione's "Sleeping Venus" in a new guise and impressive accent lighting. Small bronze figures and marble works from the most diverse art epochs complement the exhibition and directly juxtaposed with paintings in numerous places.
In addition to the modernisation of the building, the "Sculpture Collection up to 1800" is a major new feature: The large sculpture hall in the east wing will display the important collection of antiques. This includes masterpieces such as "Marcus Aurelius" by Filarete, the oldest preserved small bronze of the Renaissance. Art enthusiasts can therefore look forward to seeing antique sculptures in direct combination with the masterpieces of painting.
