The Dresden State Art Collections (Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden) comprise 15 museums, which are regarded as world-famous not least because of their thematic diversity. The museums are located in buildings worth seeing in Dresden, including the Royal Palace, the Zwinger Palace, the Albertinum, Pillnitz Palace, the Japanese Palais and the Jägerhof. The State Art Collections also include the State Ethnographic Collections of Saxony with exhibitions in Dresden, Leipzig and Herrnhut.

Art lovers can look forward to an exciting year 2019, as the Dresden State Art Collections are planning to reopen the entire Old Masters Picture Gallery on 7th December 2019. Since October 2013, two major construction phases have already been underway for the general renovation of the Semper Building. From October 2015, visitors were able to marvel at the new east wing, and now the opening of the west wing is to follow in December. Thus, for the first time since 2013, it will be possible to visit the entire Picture Gallery again. In addition to general renovation work, the "Sculpture Collection until 1800" is a major innovation. Art lovers can therefore look forward to seeing ancient sculptures in direct interaction with the masterpieces of painting.
If you want to shorten the waiting time a little, you can pay a visit to the already renovated east wing. The most important works and selected sculptures are currently being exhibited here. Please note that the gallery will be completely closed from 17th June to 11th July 2019 and from 4th November to 6th December 2019 in preparation for its reopening. We will keep you updated.
