History of Plandampf Trier
Plandampf is a German word invented to describe the use of historic steam locomotives for regulary-scheduled trains of the regional transport. A lot of steam train enthusiasts still remember the last Plandampf event in Trier in 2010. Back then, two anniversaries were celebrated: 175 years of German railway and 20 years of Plandampf.
8 years ago, the steam festival was developed with the kind support of the federal states of Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland as well as in collaboration with several steam train museums and steam enthusiasts. Back then at Easter time, about 200 historic trains run through Trier region. Despite the mainly cold and wet weather, friends of steam enjoyed the event. Moreover, the weather favoured the production of steam – a highlight for all photographers!
P.S.: 2018 is the year of great steam events in Germany: Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Dresden Steam Engine Festival takes place from 06/04 to 08/04/2018. Here you can find our FIT steam train tour to the Dresden Steam Engine Festival and our group tour suggestion to Dresden by steam!
