Current weather situation

State: 23/09/2024

Dear guests,

As if nothing had happened: The sun is shining over Saxony. Overall, the situation has calmed down again and the floods are over.

We would like to inform you about the current status:

Situation on the cycle paths/high water level:

On the Neisse: The water levels on the Neisse have returned to normal and cycling is possible without restrictions. Alert levels no longer apply.

On the Oder: Alert level 1 applies to parts of the river.

On the Elbe, in Saxony, the water levels are below the alert levels again. In Saxony-Anhalt and in Melnik, alert level 1 is currently still in force – with a downward trend. As expected, the water levels on the northern Elbe are lower, as the water has spread out well due to the wide floodplains and natural inundation areas.

This means that the entire Elbe cycle path is passable again. Please note that there are still some small areas that have been washed over or are dirty, so please cycle carefully.

Hiking in Saxon Switzerland:
In Saxon Switzerland, the current restrictions are due to the ferries not running and the associated detour to the accommodation/hiking trails. The hiking tours can be carried out, the corresponding detour (alternative ferry) will be communicated by us to the guests concerned. The ferry in Rathen is running again! :)

Current water levels:

Ferry service:
Many ferries are currently still out of service. A resumption is expected this week. Until then, please use the bridges to cross the Elbe. For the latest information on ferries and accessibility, visit: https://www.elberadweg.de/news-service/aktuelle-informationen-und-news/news/infos-zum-elbpegel-und-hochwasserwarnungen/

Please make sure you find out about any ferries you may need and their operation before you start your journey!

Saxon paddle steamers:
Currently up to and including Thursday, 26/09/2024, the White Fleet shipping service is completely suspended. Decisive is level development of the Elbe in Usti. Info: www.saechsische-dampfschifffahrt.de

State: 20/09/2024

Dear guests,

As if nothing had happened: The sun is shining again over Saxony. The area of rain has moved away and there is a long-term period of fine weather with lots of sunshine. :)

However, there are still some restrictions that we would like to inform you about:

Situation on the cycle paths/high water level:

On the Neisse: The water levels on the Neisse have returned to normal and cycling is possible without restrictions.

On the Oder: The first warning levels have been issued on the Oder and flooding and corresponding restrictions are to be expected in the coming days. We will be happy to send you detour recommendations.

On the Elbe, the peak is currently between Torgau and Lutherstadt Wittenberg and will last for several days. The water levels in the Saxon Switzerland/Dresden area are falling rapidly. On the northern Elbe, the floods are much less pronounced due to the wide floodplains and natural inundation areas.

This means that the Elbe cycle path from Prague to Dresden is currently passable with restrictions. There are also still restrictions from Dresden via Meißen to Riesa (it is possible to take alternative roads on sections of the route to avoid the whole thing).

The ferries in Saxony and the Czech Republic are almost all closed, in Saxony-Anhalt the first ones are also out of service. Please use the bridges to cross the Elbe.

Alternative routes:

For all guests who are traveling on the sections in question, we have alternative routes available if feasible (cycle tours and hikes in the Dresden/Saxon Switzerland/Elbland area and Saxon Wine Trail):

Dear guests,

As if nothing had happened: The sun is shining again over Saxony. The area of rain has moved away and there is a long-term period of fine weather with lots of sunshine. :)

However, there are still some restrictions that we would like to inform you about:

Situation on the cycle paths/high water level:
On the Neisse, the flood crest moves quickly. After the crest, the water level drops rapidly. In Zittau, the water level is almost back to normal. The peak is currently around Bad Muskau.

On the Elbe, the peak is currently around Usti in the Czech Republic and is prolonged (several days). It can be assumed that the first water levels in the Saxon Switzerland/Dresden area will fall again from Thursday. The flood is currently reaching the Torgau area with the first warning levels. On the northern Elbe, the floods will be much less pronounced due to the wide floodplains and natural inundation areas.

This means that the Elbe cycle path from Prague to Dresden is currently impassable. There are still restrictions from Dresden via Meißen to Riesa (it is possible to use alternative roads to get around the whole thing).

Hiking in Saxon Switzerland:

Dear guests,

You may have already heard about it from the media:
An extensive area of precipitation has spread across eastern Austria, eastern Germany as well as the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland, bringing large amounts of rain in a short space of time and causing flooding in some areas.

Arrivals until 20/09/2024:
Due to the current flood situation on the Elbe in Dresden and the Czech Republic, we are currently working under high pressure to check possible effects on the booked cycling or hiking trips for all arrivals until 20 September 2024 and to what extent the trips can take place or there will be changes. We ask for your understanding that we have to carry out this check individually for each booking.

We are optimistic:
From Wednesday, according to the weather forecast, we expect the flood situation to ease and the weather to improve, which will hopefully have a positive impact on your travel plans.

Arrivals from 21/09/2024:
For all arrivals from 21 September 2024 onwards, we would kindly ask you to refrain from making inquiries. We assume that your trip can take place. Should there be any changes, we will inform you accordingly.

We thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this extraordinary situation.

Your team from AugustusTours aktiv reisen
