Our travel suggestion for a group bicycle tour around Dresden

With our travel suggestion for an active city tour, you can experience not only diverse bicycle tours, but also cultural programme items: Highlights of your stay in Dresden are – of course – exploring all the city’s famous sights, a side trip to the well-known Pillnitz castle or to the wide vineyards of the Saxon Elbeland. The difference, however, is that you do not reach those sights by bus, but per bicycle and thus the way there already becomes the goal.

We have creative ideas for active groups: Simply consider a combination of culture and excursions by bicycle or by foot. The Saxon Elbe Valley and the Elbe Cycle Route between Meißen and Bad Schandau offer many sights and excursion destinations on its 70km length. Thus, many different bicycle and hiking tours would work perfectly as an active supplement to your city tour programme.

Travel process of your group bicycle tour around Dresden

As usual, the following travel suggestion is only a recommendation, which can be tailored individually to your group’s needs and wishes. Due to our extensive experience in the domain of bicycle tours, we do have some special tips for your group – simply ask us for advice.

1. Day: Individual arrival to Dresden
Depending on how you organise your day of arrival we can arrange the first excursion for the evening: Within a short period of time, you are able to visit the sights of the Old Town or the cozy bars of the Neustadt quarter from your centrally located hotel. Another option could be the visit a musical performance at to the famous Semperopera House.

2. Day: Excursion to the Saxon Switzerland (approx. 45 km bicycle tour)
In the morning we recommend a trip by suburban train to Bad Schandau, where your rental bikes already await you and your group. From here you go 45 impressive kilometers rep. 28 impressive miles back to Dresden along the river Elbe. On your way you will see bizarre rock formations, the Koenigstein Fortress, the famous Bastei Bridge and the Pillnitz Castle, which used to be the former summer residence of August the Strong.

Our advice: Instead of taking the train to Bad Schandau, there is also the possibility to disembark with your group in Königstein and to go on a hike. The well-known hiking trail named Elbe Sandstone Mountains Malerweg Trail keeps wonderful views ready and a visit to the Königstein Fortress is very recommendable.
Likewise you can take the train to the spa town Rathen, from where it is only a short walk to the famous Bastei Bridge.

3. Day: Excursion to Moritzburg (approx. 50 km bicycle tour) or cultural programme
If you wish, today everything revolves around Dresden. Leave your bike behind and discover the city by ship, bus or the Dresden Funicular Railway. In the afternoon sufficient time remains for activities such as going for a stroll, shopping or cycling.

Alternatively you also can go on a relaxing bike tour to Moritzburg. In the morning you will cycle to Radebeul, which became well known because of Karl May, one of Germany's most widely read authors. A ride on the traditional narrow-gauge railway "Lößnitzdackel" (Lößnitzgrundbahn) will bring you to Moritzburg, where you can visit the former hunting lodge of the Saxonian King August the Strong. After touring through the pond landscape you return to Radebeul. From there you can either catch the suburban train or cycle your way back to the hotel.

4. Day: Excursion to Meißen (approx. 30 km bicycle tour)
Also the porcelain city Meißen is not far away from Dresden. Cycling towards Meißen, you will pass the beautiful Gohliser windmill on the left side of the river Elbe. Meissen is inseparably linked to the subject of porcelain; a visit to the famous factory therefore is an absolute necessity. Furthermore you can stroll through the narrow streets of the city centre, slowly wending your way up to Meissen Cathedral and the majestic Albrechtsburg – Germany’s oldest royal palace. Later you are taking the suburban train back to Dresden.

Our advice: Taste some of the famous local wines of the Meißen region. We gladly organise for your group a wine tasting in one of the vineyards around Meißen or Dresden.

5. Day: Individual departure
We hope you have had a great time and an unforgettable active city tour to Dresden! It would be our pleasure to organise the coach transfer to the train station or airport for you.
