Leipzig, as native town of great and world famous composers Robert Schumann and Richard Wagner as well as the work place of Johann Sebastian Bach, has a lot to offer in terms of music: The city is home of the oldest bourgeois concert hall of Europe, the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, which was founded in 1809 with around 16 musicians. Until today it expanded to almost 200 musicians.

It is one of the oldest opera houses in Europe playing the works of great artistes, such as Frank Wildhorn, Giuseppe Verdi and Richard Wagner, as well as famous pieces, like “La Traviata”, “My fair Lady” and “Romeo & Julia”. In addition to operas, ballets and musical comedies are also performed here. Annually, there are Christmas concerts and a New Year’s Eve Gala at the turn of the year.
