A normal day for me usually starts with picking up and preparing our rental bikes at the hotels in Dresden. So I drive our AugustusTours minibus to our garage, load the already cleaned and serviced bikes and the prepared bike bags and take them to the respective hotels of our cycle tour guests. I start this task early in the morning to avoid the rush hour traffic in Dresden.
I then transport the bikes and luggage between 09:00 and 17:00. I provide this service for our hikers and cyclists in the region between Decin and Strehla. Our guests leave their luggage at the reception desk in the accommodation until 9 am. We're really lucky with our guests: most of them pack suitcases weighing less than 20 kg and drop them off on time so that I can keep to my schedule and deliver all their luggage on time.
Of course, unforeseen events can occur from time to time. These include, for example, guests spontaneously travelling with us if they fall ill during the trip or if their bike breaks down. Fortunately, this really only happens very rarely for us. However, if the worst comes to the worst, we always find a good way to help our guests.
Planned transfers, such as our shared transfer to Prague, give me great pleasure because the guests chat about their experiences and want to learn a lot about our region.
My tasks also include preparing the bike bags with which our guests receive, among other things, bike locks, a repair kit and, on request, a speedometer. I also keep an eye on our transporter and keep it clean. Our bike mechanic Werner Schloth is responsible for the maintenance of the hire bikes. I work very closely with him and with the logistics planner in the office.
