Winter Wonderland: Fichtelbergbahn & Saxon Railway Museum Adventure.

Discover with us sleepy villages and – with a little luck – snowy woods. Enjoy the freezing winter time with a well-tempered ride with the Fichtelbergbahn steam train. Beside the steam train ride you are also going to visit the engine shed in Oberwiesenthal. Have a look behind the scenery of a steam railway company and experience many interesting things about steam trains and their maintenance during the guided tour.

The visit of the Saxon Railway Museum in Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf should not be missed on your trip. Its exhibits and documents give insights into the development of the railway traffic in the 20th century. During a small photo parade with the different steam trains you can capture your moment and take a little memory with you at home.

Itinerary

Day 1: Individual arrival to Chemnitz and visit to the Saxon Railway Museum
To join in to your trip you will visit the Saxon Railway Museum on the first day of your steam train tour. During the guidance you are going to see and discover many interesting facts about steam engines. Gaze at the huge collection of steam-, diesel- and electro railway engines from different model ranges and historic good and passenger cars! After your arrival in the Mercure hotel in Chemnitz you can take a walk in the center of Chemnitz, visit the oldest town´s landmark, the red tower or marvel the Karl Marx monument.
Overnight stay in Chemnitz
Day 2: Ride with the Fichtelbergbahn (steam train) to Oberwiesenthal
You are starting this day with a steam train ride to the highest situated health resort of Germany, Oberwiesenthal. The Fichtelbergbahn steam train coils from the lane change railway Cranzahl through a compact forest, past at the viaduct of Hüttenbach, over a steel grid bridge to the end station of Oberwiesenthal. Here you are going to visit the steam depot and you are going to experience many worth knowing facts about the steam engines. Then you are going to strengthen yourself with a good lunch before the steam train ride goes back to Chemnitz.

Day 3: Individual departure from Chemnitz
With many new impression and awesome experiences around steam engines you are going to make your way home. Extend your group tour to Chemnitz and plan other trips for example to the capital Dresden or the Saxon metropolis of Leipzig. We would gladly organize you any additional steam train ride or an exciting excursion to a railway specific museum.

The 3 star Superior Dorint Hotel in Chemnitz is located directly in the center. The main railway station, the local public traffic and the historic center are easily reachable.

The 4 star Traditionshotel Wilder Mann is located directly at the market place of the mining city Annaberg-Buchholz. The hotel is one of the oldest former town houses. In the comfortably furnished house you will see many witnesses of past.

Please note:The steam train travel is only offered for groups off 10 people. But we are also offering a similar service for individual travelers or small groups with less than 10 persons.
