Day 1: Individual journey to Eichstätt
You travel individually to the episcopal city of Eichstätt. Perhaps you have already spotted the Willibaldsburg castle fortress? Discover the imposing medieval building and enjoy a sweeping view over Eichstätt.
Overnight stay in Eichstätt -
Day 2: Eichstätt - Gungolding/Böhming (approx. 21/24/27 km*, walking time: approx. 5.5 - 7.5 h, + 683 m, - 700 m)
You leave the town with the Willibaldsburg and walk through small villages. You cross the Gungoldinger Wachholderheide and spend the night below Arnsberg Castle.
Overnight stay in Gundolging or Böhming -
Day 3: Gungolding/Böhming - Kinding (approx. 18/12 km*, walking time: approx. 3 - 5 h, + 478 m, - 493 m)
The day begins with an ascent to the ‘Arnsberger Leite’ rock formation. The castle of the same name towers above Kipfenberg. After some time in the forest, you soon reach the small town of Kinding.
Overnight stay in Kinding -
Day 4: Kinding - Beilngries (approx. 18 km*, walking time: approx. 6 h, + 496 m, - 502 m)
Unique rock formations and wonderful views await you today. At the Pfraundorfer See lake, you cross the banks of the Altmühl. From Hirschberg Castle, you can already see the Main-Danube Canal, which you follow for a short distance after a descent to Beilngries, the town with nine city towers.
Overnight stay in Beilngries -
Day 5: Beilngries - Meihern (approx. 20 km**, walking time: approx. 6 h, + 467 m, - 466 m)
You hike across the plateau of the Arzberg past Dietfurt on the Altmühl. The town (additional detour of approx. 2 km) with its reputation as a ‘Chinese town’ invites you to stroll around. Later you cycle along the edge of the forest to your overnight stay.
Overnight stay in Meihern -
Day 6: Meihern - Riedenburg (approx. 20 km**, walking time: approx. 6 h, + 586 m, - 647 m)
The first highlight after the ascent is Eggersberg Castle. Along the Altmühltal riverside path, it is not far to the castle town of Riedenburg.
Overnight stay in Riedenburg -
Day 7: Riedenburg - Kelheim (approx. 23 km**, walking time: approx. 7 h, + 751 m, - 762 m)
The last hiking tour offers you plenty of variety: Prunn Castle, the second longest wooden bridge in Europe and the Danube gorge near Kelheim as well as an optional detour to Weltenburg Abbey (plus approx. 2 km with use of the ferry) form the crowning finale.
Overnight stay in Kelheim -
Day 8: Individual departure
After an unforgettable hiking trip along the Altmühltal Panorama Path, you start your return journey today. Alternatively, you can extend your hiking holiday with an extra night in Kelheim or other stage towns. We would be happy to book additional nights for you - just ask us!

Travelling by train:
Eichstätt is easily accessible by train. If you are coming from Nuremberg or Munich, you will need to change trains, as Eichstätt is on the Ingolstadt-Treuchtlingen railway line.
From the railway station you can reach your hotel on foot or we recommend that you take a taxi (depending on the location of your hotel).

Eichstätt can be reached from the north-west and from Ingolstadt via the B 13. If you are coming from Nuremberg via the A 9 motorway, leave the motorway at the ‘Altmühltal’ junction and drive from there to Eichstätt in around 20 minutes via the Jurahochstraße (E 21).
Depending on the hotel, there are direct parking options or you can find a good overview of public car parks and multi-storey car parks at www.parkopedia.de.
