Hike along the picturesque Altmühltal Panorama Path in the heart of Bavaria and enjoy a varied mix of nature, culture and history! Our hiking tour offers you views over sunny juniper heaths, wild rocky landscapes and quarries as well as insights into historically valuable places with fairytale castles and palaces!

Thanks to its excellent signposting and good transport links, the Altmühltal Panorama Path has been certified as a "Quality Path Wanderbares Deutschland" by the German Hiking Association.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Individual journey to Kinding
    You travel individually to Kinding. Explore the resort and arrive at your holiday destination.
    Overnight stay in Kinding
  • Day 2: Kinding - Beilngries (approx. 18 km*, walking time: approx. 6 h, + 350 m, - 352 m)
    Unique rock formations and wonderful views await you today. At the Pfraundorfer See lake, you cross the banks of the Altmühl. From Hirschberg Castle, you can already see the Main-Danube Canal, which you follow for a short distance after a descent to Beilngries, the town with nine city towers.

  • Day 3: Beilngries - Meihern (approx. 18 km**, walking time: approx. 6 h, + 311 m, - 296 m)
    You hike across the plateau of the Arzberg past Dietfurt on the Altmühl. The town (additional detour of approx. 2 km) with its reputation as a ‘Chinese town’ invites you to stroll around. Later you cycle along the edge of the forest to your overnight stay.

  • Day 4: Meihern - Riedenburg (approx. 20 km**, walking time: approx. 6 h, + 400 m, - 422 m)
    The first highlight after the ascent is Eggersberg Castle. Along the Altmühltal riverside path, it is not far to the castle town of Riedenburg.

  • Day 5: Riedenburg - Kelheim (approx. 24 km**, walking time: approx. 7.5 h, + 521 m, - 532 m)
    The last hiking tour offers you plenty of variety: Prunn Castle, the second longest wooden bridge in Europe and the Danube gorge near Kelheim as well as an optional detour to Weltenburg Abbey (plus approx. 2 km with use of the ferry) form the crowning finale.

  • Day 6: Individual departure
    After an unforgettable hiking trip along the Altmühltal Panorama Path, you start your return journey today. Alternatively, you can extend your hiking holiday with an extra night in Kelheim or other stage towns. We would be happy to book additional nights for you - just ask us!

Arrival & Departure

Information on travelling to Kinding:

Travelling by train:
The regional railway station Kinding (Altmühltal) is located directly on the ICE line between Nuremberg and Munich. Deutsche Bahn regional express trains stop in Kinding every two hours.
From the station you can reach your hotel on foot in a very short time or we recommend that you take a taxi (depending on the location of your hotel).

Arrival by car and parking facilities:
Drivers take the A9 motorway to the ‘Altmühltal’ exit; from there it is only a few kilometres to the town.
Depending on the hotel, there are direct parking options or you can find a good overview of public car parks and multi-storey car parks at www.parkopedia.de.
