Short hiking tour Altmühltal Panorama Path: Pappenheim - Eichstätt

Itinerary

• Day 1: Individual journey to Pappenheim
  After your arrival, take a walk through the historic old town of Pappenheim and enjoy the fantastic view of the Altmühltal valley.
  Overnight stay in Pappenheim
• Day 2: Circular hike Pappenheim (approx. 9.5 km, walking time: approx. 3 h, + 236 m, - 214 m) or Pappenheim - Dollnstein (approx. 25 km, walking time: approx. 8 h, + 533 m, - 540 m)
  You have the choice between a short circular hike or a more sporty variant on the Altmühltal Panorama Path to Dollnstein. On the leisurely route around Pappenheim, you will learn about the history of the town and experience wonderful views. There is plenty of time to visit the historic castle, which sits enthroned on a mountain spur above the old town. The longer stage takes you along varied paths to Solnhofen, where the Urvogel was found. Discover the impressive ‘Twelve Apostles’ rock formation near Esslingen before reaching Dollnstein in the Urdonau valley. You can reach Pappenheim again in a few minutes by train (on your own, costs not included in the tour price).

• Day 3: Dollnstein - Eichstätt (approx. 15 km, walking time: approx. 5 h, + 325 m, - 312 m)
  Take the train (ticket not included in the package) to the starting point of todays hike. After a few steeper climbs, you will be rewarded by a magnificent panoramic view of the Altmühltal valley, in keeping with the name of the hiking trail. Your destination is the episcopal town of Eichstätt with Willibaldsburg Castle, which can be seen from afar. The cathedral with its treasury and museum as well as the Residenzplatz, an architectural masterpiece, await your visit.
  Overnight stay in Eichstätt
• Day 4: Circular hike Eichstätt (approx. 15 km, walking time: approx. 4.5 h, + 270 m, - 270 m)
  On the last day you go on a circular hike. You leave the baroque town uphill - its worth taking a look behind you! The panoramic trail takes you to Landershofen. This is where the marvellous juniper heath of the Altmühlleiten begins. You will be rewarded with a panoramic view of the Altmühl valley and the Roman fort at Pfünz. Then you enter the forest and leave the hiking trail. At Buchenhüll, you will pass a Sacred Heart of Jesus and a Lourdes grotto. Crossing woods, meadows and fields, you will reach the panoramic trail again after Ziegelhof, which will take you back to Eichstätt.
  Overnight stay in Eichstätt
• Day 5: Individual departure from Eichstätt (or extension)
