Walking in Italy: From Lake Garda to Venice

Itinerary

• Day 1: Individual arrival to Riva del Garda
  Begin your holiday in the charming historic centre of Riva, perfectly set on the lake’s edge. Take a moment to enjoy a cappuccino at a traditional Italian café, while taking in the views of the surrounding mountains and soaking up the gentle southern atmosphere.

• Day 2: Riva del Garda – Pietramurata (approx. 13 km, walking time: approx. 4 hours, + 300 m, - 150 m)
  Your walking tour begins in Ceniga and takes you through the magnificent vineyards of the Sarca Valley. You will soon arrive at an area of giant rockfalls, resembling a rocky desert. Pass colourful orchards and vegetable fields as you head towards Lago di Cavedine, enjoying the views before reaching the charming village of Pietramurata. Nestled in the Sarca-river Valley, the village is surrounded by the highest rock walls of the Lake Garda mountains.

• Day 3: Pietramurata – Trento (approx. 13 km, walking time: approx. 4.5 hours, + 400 m, - 650 m)
  After a scenic bus ride (additional costs) past the striking Castello di Toblino into the picturesque Valley of Lakes, your walk begins at Lago di Terlago. The route then takes you through remote woodlands and across karst plateaus, climbing 400 metres along the historic Saint Vigil Trail. At the summit, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the Adige Valley and the Dolomites. This is the perfect place to pause and soak up the scenery. The day concludes with the descent to Trento, where you can wander through the charming historic centre and admire its many churches and elegant palaces before enjoying a well-earned evening in this beautiful city.

• Day 4: Trento – Levico Terme (approx. 12 km, walking time: approx. 3.5–4 hours, + 250 m, - 250 m)
  Your day begins with a short train ride (included in the tour price) followed by a gentle walk into the picturesque centre of Pergine. Take a leisurely stroll around the town before continuing your hike along the historic Roman road, the Via Claudia Augusta. The trail takes you past the vast Lago di Caldonazzo and the serene Lago di Levico, perfect for a refreshing dip on a warm, sunny day. Savour the idyllic natural surroundings before arriving in the charming spa town of Levico Terme, where you will spend the night.

• Day 5: Levico Terme – Borgo Valsugana (approx. 16 km, walking time: approx. 5 hours, + 450 m, - 650 m)
  Today’s hike takes you deep into the majestic mountain scenery en route to Borgo Valsugana. The path winds through a dramatic landscape of roaring mountain streams, lush green alpine pastures and towering rock formations. We recommend stopping at the Cipriani mountain hut, nestled beneath the jagged peaks and offering spectacular panoramic views. A steep, winding path then leads you into Borgo Valsugana, where you will encounter the first glimpses of Venetian bridges and pergolas.

• Day 6: Borgo Valsugana – Bassano del Grappa (approx. 13 km, walking time: approx. 4.5 hours, + 500 m, - 550 m)
  Your day begins with a steady ascent onto the Alta Via del Tabacco, a remarkable high-level path offering superb views across the Brenta Valley. Passing the San Bovo hermitage, you descend back to the valley floor for a leisurely stroll along the green River Brenta. You will cross the famous bridge Ponte Vecchio before arriving in Bassano del Grappa. This charming town is the perfect place to pause and enjoy the rest of the day!

• Day 7: Bassano del Grappa – Venice/Mestre (approx. 17 km, walking time: approx. 4 hours, + 20 m, - 20 m)
  Today marks the final stage of your walking holiday. You will follow a trail along wooden footbridges through the enchanting River Sile Nature Park. After following this scenic path, you will soon reach the small town of Quarto d’Altino. From there, you can continue by train to your final destination of Venice (additional costs). A well-connected local bus network will take you smoothly into the heart of this unique lagoon city on the Adriatic. To round off your holiday, you can enjoy an authentic grappa tasting not far from St Marks Square!
