Among many others, the Leipzig Opera House offers a variedly programme for New Year’s Eve. You can spend an entertaining evening enjoying an eclectic mix of various extracts from operas, operettas, musicals, and ballets – rounded off with a New Year’s party in the foyer together with artists from the opera.

As in every year, one can enjoy the fireworks together with many more guests and locals on the Augustusplatz. The city’s largest square is located between the opera house and the concert hall named Gewandhaus.

Organ Concert for New Year’s Eve in the St. Thomas Church of Leipzig
In case you prefer quite tones to end the old year, the famous St. Thomas Church is definitely worth visiting. It’s choir will sing, accompanied by the Gewandhaus Choir, the New Year’s Eve Motet at 1:30 pm. In the evening at 9:00 pm, you can enjoy the melodious New Year’s Eve Organ Concert in the St.Thomas Church as well.

Starting at 10:00 pm, you can enjoy imposing sounds at the contemplative organ concert in the concert hall of Leipzig. Michael Schönheit, the Gewandhaus organ player, will play various works by Felix Medelsohn Bartholdy, Franz Liszt, Louis James Alfred Lefébure-Wély, Camille Saint-Saëns, Richard Strauss, and Modest Mussorgski.
New Year’s Eve in the Panorama Tower of Leipzig
If you wish to observe the fireworks from high above, visit the restaurant in the Panorama Tower Leipzig. From up there, you have a spectacular view over the city. Spend the evening savouring an exquisite five-course menu and experience various fireworks from the observation platform in 120 metres height.
