Saxon Wine Hiking Trail

Vineyards whose foliage glows colourfully in the sunlight, 400-year-old dry stone walls where mosses and lichens cavort, vantage points from which you can look out over the entire Elbe Valley, and wine cellars where one or two fine wines mature: a hike along the Saxon Wine Trail promises all of this and plenty of hiking pleasure.

The Saxon Wine Trail follows the Saxon Wine Route, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2017, for 90 kilometres to the most beautiful vineyards from Pirna to Diesbar-Seusslitz.

Information on the Saxon Wine Trail

• Length/ course: The hiking trail, which has been in existence since 2004, follows the Saxon Wine Route, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2017, from Pirna to Diesbar-Seusslitz. The first vines can already be discovered in Pirna. From the Royal Vineyard in Pillnitz via the Wachwitz Vineyard, it is not far to the three Elbe castles, whose vineyards are also worth seeing. Between Dresden and Meißen you walk directly through the heart of the wine-growing region. Radebeul, Coswig and Weinböhla enchant with their winegrowing charm...
• Route character/ level of difficulty of the hiking tours: Varied, the 90-kilometre hiking trail leads over asphalt, cobblestones and occasionally along overgrown paths and stairs.
• Signposting: The signposting of the Saxon Wine Trail is currently being updated. It is therefore possible that orientation may still be somewhat difficult in places. It is therefore recommended that you take a map of the Saxon Wine Trail with you. The logo of the wine trail shows a wine-red grape with an "S" above it.
