Walking along the Saxon Wine Trail

Itinerary

• 1st day: Individual arrival in Pirna
  Your walking trip at the Saxon wineroute starts at the city of Pirna, the gate to the Saxon Switzerland. We recommend a walk through the medieval alleys the town has to offer, to admire the countless artfully decoratet houses.
  Overnight stay in Pirna
• 2nd day: Pirna - Pillnitz (approx. 12 km, walking time: approx. 4 h, + 120 m, - 100 m)
  Your first walk starts with a fantastic view from Pirna-Oberposta over the old city of Pirna and the Castle Sonnenstein. The path leads you past Zislers vineyard towards the hunting castle Graupa. Finally you will reach the educational wine trail and get rewarded with a stunning view on the lovely church and the castle from Pillnitz. Take a stroll around the beautiful castles garden with the unique camelia and admire the mountain and water palais, which was built in the 18th century under the influence of the eastern asian fashion.

• 3rd day: Pillnitz - Dresden (approx. 12 km, Walking time: approx. 4 h, + 165 m, - 189 m)
  From Pillnitz you walk past fields and vineyards towards Wachwitz and continue your way to Loschwitz with the famous steel bridge "Blaues Wunder" ("Blue Miracle"). Enjoy the view of the graceful old town of Dresden, which comes closer with every step you take. You will pass picturesque castles on your way the heart of Dresden.

• 4th day: Dresden - Radebeul (approx. 15 km, Gehzeit: approx. 5 h, + 225 m, - 207 m)
  We recommend a short tram ride through Dresden before you walk through the "Junge Heide" towards the city of Karl MAy: Radebeul. Your way leads you past the Castle Bennoschlösschen and pretty half-timbered houses towards the Spitzhaus. The tower "Bismarckturn" is close and grants a great view over the valley of the river Elbe. The stairs of the Spitzhaus lead you to the vineyard museum of Hoßlößnitz.
  Overnight stay in Radebeul
• 5th day: Radebeul - Weinböhla (approx. 15 km, Walking time approx. 4,5 h, + 254 m, - 210 m)
  On todays stage you will pass venerable wineries and the steep vineyards of Niederlößnitz. One highlight is the Belvedere Park of Wackerbarth Castle. Afterwards you walk from Coswig to Weinböhla, a village of wine with big civic buildings. If you booked your tour with category A, you will go by tram back to Radebeul to stay overnight. The next morning you will take another tram ride back to Weinböhla.

  Wine tasting at Wackerbarth Castle
• 6th day: Weinböhla - Meissen (approx. 19 km, Walking time: approx. 6 h, + 183 m, - 240 m)
  You will start your day with a walk to the Ratsweinberg in Weinböhla. After you passed the former Castle Oberau you will walk through the landscape conservation area Nassau. In the morning you hike to the Weinböhla Ratsweinberg. After passing the former Oberau Castle, you hike through the Nassau landscape conservation area. Behind Niederau, the Meissen Spaargebirge is soon reached. From the Boselspitze a beautiful view of the Elbe Valley opens up. Take advantage of the many opportunities to stop for refreshments in Sörnewitz before arriving in the porcelain city of Meissen.
  Overnight stay in Meissen
• 7th day: Region of Diesbar-Seußlitz (approx. 16 km, Walking time: approx. 5 h, + 238 m, - 231 m) + bus ride to Meißen
  We recommend a short tour through Meissen. Then you walk along the river Elbe to the "Katzenstufen" ("cat steps"), some stairs that will lead you to the Castle of Proschwitz. After a troll through the idyllic park you walk past vineyards towards Zadel, the head quarter of the biggest vineyard of Saxony. Through the forest the path leads you to the Castle of Seusslitz. Enjoy the last evening of you walking trip with a good zip of wine in one of the countless taverns. A bus (included) or a steam ship (additional costs) will bring you back across the Elbe to Meissen.
